SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Heather Stroud, who has served as city attorney for 7.5 years, submitted her resignation to the city on Friday, April 24. Her last day will be July 1.
Stroud told the city in her letter that it was a “tough decision” but decided to move on for personal and professional reasons. She will be serving as senior counsel with the law firm of Colantuono, Highsmith & Whatley P.C.
“I want to thank you for allowing me to serve this wonderful community for the past 7.5 years. It has been the highlight of my career to date. I will be maintaining my residence in South Lake Tahoe, as my kids are in the thick of it and my family and I plan to stay here. I will assist as much as possible with the upcoming transition during my remaining time here,” said Stroud in her letter.
The firm she is joining is a municipal law firm that deals with issues such as redevelopment, Local Agency Formation Commissions, public revenues, elections and CEQA. Notable clients include the El Dorado Regional Fire Authority, the cities of Auburn, Grass Valley and Novato, the Tahoe Forest Hospital District and the County of Los Angeles Citizens Redistricting Committee. They’ve also provided special counsel to South Lake Tahoe, among other cities, and have firm offices in Pasadena, Grass Valley, Orange County, Sacramento, San Diego and Sonoma.
Stroud told the Tribune, “It’s time for me to move on and pass the torch. I wish the city the best.” She also said that she was willing to assist as much as possible with finding her successors, and that the council is responsible for deciding on who will fill the position.
Currently, the city is also seeking its replacement for former city manager Joe Irvin, who left earlier this year. City council will be shifting significantly in November as well, with three seats up for election.
