April 18, 1958 – May 5, 2026
Mike Heil, 68, of Minden, Nevada, passed peacefully at his home on May 5, 2026. He was born on April 18, 1958, in Glendale, California.
An accomplished athlete, Mike starred as a football quarterback and flame-throwing left-handed pitcher at Foothill High School in Tustin, California. He played baseball for two years at Saddleback Junior College in Mission Viejo before earning a baseball scholarship to the University of Oregon in 1978. After graduating, he moved to South Lake Tahoe, where he lived for most of his adult life. He worked as a pit boss at Harrah’s for 18 years and later sold timeshares at The Ridge Tahoe and Walley’s Resort.
Mike was an avid skier, golfer, and fitness enthusiast who loved going to the gym. With his infectious smile, he was known as the happiest and most positive person in any room — always on time and never arriving empty-handed. His simple life philosophy was one he often shared: “Be good, be kind, be careful.” Above all, Mike loved his Oregon Ducks and took immense pride in being a Ducks alumnus.
Mike is survived by his father, Coach Bill Heil; his sister, Sue Rice, and her husband Jack; his brothers, John Heil and his wife Michelle, and Tommy Heil and his wife Stephanie; along with many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Joan (Murray) Heil.
He will be deeply missed by his many good friends and all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held in Minden, Nevada, at a date to be determined.
