INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. – 32-year-old Amazon software engineer Yadessa Emiru Aga died in a drowning incident that occurred Monday evening at Sand Harbor.

At approximately 8:00 p.m., Washoe County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the north Sand Harbor boat ramp following a report of a possible water rescue. Upon arriving, deputies observed an unresponsive adult male being brought to shore by bystanders.

Despite life-saving measures, Aga was pronounced deceased at the scene.

According to a GoFundMe, Aga died while returning from a church conference and spending time with friends at Lake Tahoe.

Aga reportedly worked at Amazon as a software engineer and lived in Austin, Texas.

The fundraiser describes Aga as a beloved brother, son, friend, and man of deep faith, known for his kindness, warmth, and joyful spirit, adding, “To know Yadessa was to know genuine kindness, warmth, and joy.”

Donations from the fundraiser will help cover the remaining costs of bringing him home and paying for funeral arrangements in both the United States and Ethiopia.
