SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – On Saturday, August 8, Al Tahoe Firewise will be putting on a yard clean-up and document shredding fundraiser for the neighborhood, which will include a barbecue, fundraising opportunities, demonstrations and insurance updates.
Firewise is a recognition program that educates owners and residents about what they can do to reduce fire risks on their property, including programs like defensible space and home hardening. Communities can be nationally recognized by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and can also learn more through the Tahoe Resource Conservation District’s Living With Fire site.
The Al Tahoe Firewise community is the largest in the Tahoe Basin and was the first to be nationally recognized as a Firewise community in South Lake Tahoe. The group formed in part due to concerns over evacuation issues seen in the Camp Fire, and has formed partnerships with the Tahoe Resource Conservation District, South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR) and Lake Valley Fire Protection District.
Their events will take place on Saturday, August 8th from 10:00 a.m, to 2:00 p.m. The document shredding fundraiser will take place at the American Legion Lot, 2748 Lake Tahoe Boulevard, while their yard clean-up will take place at Fire Station 2, 2951 Lake Tahoe Boulevard.
The yard clean-up will have a barbecue with refreshments as well as sales of baked goods, wood art and Lake Tahoe tea towels.
At the event, you can also apply or nominate a disadvantaged “Neighbor in Need” through their Helping Hands program, which will help those who cannot clear their yards of fuels without assistance.
