SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal on August 17 was hosted by Ascent, Inc., the Adopt A Day of Nourishment sponsor for the evening. Ascent, Inc. is an environmental planning and design consulting company with offices in South Lake Tahoe and four other major cities in California. The company provides innovative, sustainable planning for projects involving environmental compliance. Its staff of scientists, engineers, urban designers, and planners strive to be socially responsible by taking bold action to combat climate change. As an Adopt A Day sponsor, Ascent also demonstrated its commitment to the local community.
Representing Ascent, Inc. were Kelley Kelso, her daughter Hannah Kelso, and Nanette Hansel. These Adopt A Day crew volunteers were a delight to have assisting Bread & Broth volunteers with meal setup, serving, and takedown/cleanup. In addition to working on the serving line, they helped B&B volunteers pack 200 bags filled with fresh fruits and vegetables, served along with dairy products, meat, canned goods, and breads/pastries, for dinner guests to take home after enjoying their evening meal.
Bread & Broth’s Monday Meal, sponsored by Ascent, Inc., was a very special dinner for the 133 guests in attendance. Although every dinner served at St. Theresa’s Grace Hall by Bread & Broth cooks and volunteers is hot, nutritious, and tasty, the August 17 dinner was especially memorable. Thanks to an extremely generous donation of T-bone steaks, filet mignon, and rib-eye steaks by the recently opened Save Mart grocery store, dinner guests enjoyed “Steak Night.”
The steaks were cooked to perfection by B&B Lead Cook Bill Marchetti and his cooking crew and served with mushroom au jus, roasted garlic broccoli, Sicilian potato salad, and a variety of desserts donated by local grocery stores. It was a feast enjoyed by all and greatly appreciated by the attending community members.
“Bread & Broth is a fantastic organization doing great work in the Lake Tahoe community,” said Hannah Kelso. “All of their volunteers are hardworking and kind, and we had such a great time helping out this week. It was wonderful to be able to give back to the community I grew up in, and it is incredibly obvious that this work is needed and appreciated. Thank you to Bread & Broth and its incredible volunteers—keep killing it!”
