Lake Tahoe AleWorX’s Avventura Pizza
Rob Galloway / Tahoe Daily Tribune

When someone tells me that we’re going to be featuring an item that’s a best seller on their menu, I’m always looking forward to it – mainly because if that many people like it, I’m bound to like it as well. But when the owner also adds in a tidbit that when in college, this pizza was the go-to when creating their own at the local pizza place, I’m even more excited. Welcome to this week’s feature.

On top of AleWorX’s signature pizza dough that go-to consists of a combination of crushed tomato, mozzarella, roasted garlic, sausage, fresh jalapeno, pepperoni, pine nuts, and cherry tomatoes. I’m all in on all these ingredients but once it gets that sweet kiss from the woodfired oven, I can easily see why it’s a customer favorite because it’s easily one of mine, too.

The sweet bursts from the cherry tomatoes, the delicate texture from the pine nuts, just the right amount of heat from the jalapenos, the savory depth from the roasted garlic, and the perfect chew from the pepperoni and sausage, this pizza is a murderer’s row of ingredients and flavors.

I guess it doesn’t hurt that pizza is my favorite food, but this truly carries some exciting twists and turns on the palette. I paired it up with one of their Mexican lagers and it was the perfect complement to a summer day. I realize summer is on its way out, but I’ll always have this combo to get me through the coming months … probably multiple times.
