STATELINE, Nev. — Ever watched curling during the Winter Olympics and wondered what it would be like to try it yourself? Lake Tahoe Epic Curling Club is inviting kids, teens and adults to get on the ice this November with two upcoming beginner-friendly curling programs.

Whether you’re looking for a new family activity, an opportunity to meet people or simply something different to do as the weather turns colder, curling offers a unique combination of teamwork, strategy and fun.

Both programs take place at Lake Tahoe Epic Curling Club’s dedicated curling facility in Stateline, Nevada, and no previous curling experience is required.

Lil’ Rockers: Introducing Kids to Curling

Designed for students in grades 2–6, the Lil’ Rockers Curling Lessons program introduces young participants to the sport through hands-on instruction, skill-building activities and games.

Kids will learn the basics of curling, develop coordination and teamwork skills, and gain confidence on the ice in a welcoming, supportive environment.

The five-session program takes place on Tuesdays, November 3, 10 and 17, and December 1 and 8, from 5–6 p.m.

The cost is $50 per child for the entire program.

“Curling is a great sport for kids because it combines physical activity with problem-solving and teamwork,” said Edie Hazard, a Lake Tahoe Epic Curling representative who competed for Great Britain at the 1998 Winter Olympics and won the 2002 Women’s World Curling Championship. “It’s exciting to watch kids discover a new sport, learn new skills and realize that curling is something they can enjoy.”

Adult & Teen Curling Lessons: Give Curling a Try

For teens and adults curious about curling, the club is offering a two-part beginner lesson series on Mondays, November 9 and 16, from 6–8 p.m.

Participants will learn the fundamentals of curling, including how to deliver a stone, sweep, score points and understand the strategy behind the game.

Experienced club curlers will guide participants through the lessons, helping them develop the skills and confidence needed to play.

The cost is $70 per person for both sessions.

“One of the best things about curling is that you don’t need any experience to get started,” Hazard said. “People come in thinking it looks complicated, but once they get on the ice, they quickly discover how much fun it is. It’s social, it’s challenging and there’s always something new to learn.”

A Year-Round Olympic Sport in Lake Tahoe

Curling has been part of the South Lake Tahoe community since 2013. In 2019, Lake Tahoe Epic Curling Club opened its dedicated two-sheet curling facility in Stateline, allowing the nonprofit organization to offer curling throughout the year.

The club provides opportunities for beginners and experienced players through lessons, recreational leagues, youth programs, tournaments and private group events.

While curling is often associated with the Winter Olympics, the sport can be enjoyed year-round and welcomes participants of different ages and abilities.
