To try and decide each week where and what to eat around the basin can be a challenge – there are so many amazing choices. In this feature we’ll dive into dishes that will surely satisfy those hunger pangs and leave you wondering where to go next.
It’s not every day that you get to feature an item that was introduced to Tahoe in the 70s, but that’s indeed the case we have this week. The Snoopy Salad was first featured at the Seafood Cove in Harrah’s and it’s a menu item that is still represented today at the casino’s Friday’s Station restaurant.
To give you the lay of the land of this dish, a bed of butter lettuce is laced with shrimp, crab, sliced egg, tomato, avocado, scallions, and tossed with a citrus vinaigrette. Think of this as kind of an elevated take on a Crab Louie salad and that might help with what kind of flavors we’re dealing with.

It’s hard to outshine the fresh, sweet and tender pieces of shrimp and crab – they elevate each and every bite. The butter lettuce is soft and silky and lets each of the components to use it as a canvas and heightens the feeling of freshness when flanked by the tomato and scallions. The avocado’s creaminess is cut perfectly by the citrus vinaigrette, and the sliced egg feel like the guy who shows up to a party that’s winding down with a fresh keg of beer – it just keeps the fun going.
This is the kind of salad that you don’t eat – you shovel. Although, that could just be me. Each bite was so addicting that I couldn’t stop eating it … until it was gone. I guess that’s why it’s been around for 50 years.
