A South Tahoe Middle School student’s verbal threat to harm other students will not effect a school dance scheduled for Friday evening, March 9.

In a press release, LTUSD public information officer Shannon Chandler said the threat was investigated by school administration and local law enforcement and has been ruled “without merit” at this time.

“Administration understands that the climate around school safety is heightened throughout the country.  Our schools are working to educate students on the significance of their unintentional speech and the consequences of making impulsive or thoughtless comments around the very serious topic of school violence,” the press release states.

The dance begins at 6:00 p.m. and will include chaperones and security personnel.
