SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – One of the most active non-profit service organizations in Lake Tahoe South Shore community is the Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe. This international organization is dedicated to helping the children of the world. Guided by the motto, “It’s all about the Kid’s,” the club consists of dedicated people who have a passion for community projects benefiting children.
In addition to being a Monday Meal Adopt A Day of Nourishment (AAD) sponsor twice a year, the Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe also sponsors the South Tahoe HS Key Club, Whittell HS Key Club, and the Circle K Club of LTCC, organizes the ‘coats for kids’ project, donates to the mobile elementary school dental clinic, and supports many other children/community oriented projects that enhance the community. Those interested in helping children are encouraged to visit the Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe’s website for more information.

Bread & Broth is very grateful to the Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe for choosing Bread & Broth as one of their service projects. The club’s most recent AAD sponsorship took place on Monday February 16th. Representatives from the organization included Linda Amaral, Michele Amaral, Don Borges, Margie Kovarik-Maxhimer, and Velma Schnoll (the club’s president). Additional Kiwanis Club members volunteering at the meal were Bob Harms, Pat Frega, and Christy Slocum, who in addition to being Kiwanis Club members, are also regular Bread & Broth Monday Meal volunteers.
It’s always a pleasure to have the Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe host and attend a Monday Meal because they are so service-minded. They are very dedicated to helping others and enjoy the interaction not only with the B&B volunteers but with the dinner guests attending their sponsorship dinner.
Margie Korark-Maxhimer expressed the club’s gratitude for sponsoring the evening meal, stating, “The Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe is grateful to be the sponsor of tonight’s delicious meal. Chef Billy and his crew prepared chicken cacciatore ‘hunter style’ with mushrooms and perfectly roasted broccoli, rounded out with rolls, salad, and desserts. The dinner guests also received bursting bags of fresh fruit and vegetables and other healthy staples.”
Margie summed up the role of the attending Kiwanis Club members. “I speak for all of us, we believe in the Unity of Community!” Bread & Broth is grateful to organizations like the Kiwanis Club of Lake Tahoe who support Bread & Both’s efforts to serve hot, full-course meals to the struggling members of our community.
