STATELINE, Nev. – The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is reminding motorists traveling through the U.S. 50 Tahoe East Shore Resurfacing Project from the Lake Tahoe’s South Shore at Stateline to Spooner Summit to slow down and follow the posted speed limits and traffic control measures.

In response to ongoing safety concerns including speeding and unsafe driving behaviors, and to protect roadway workers and motorists, the Sheriff’s Office will actively be enforcing traffic laws throughout the construction zone. The enhanced enforcement effort is intended to improve safety for motorists, construction crews, residents, and visitors traveling along the east shore of Lake Tahoe.

“Work zones are not a place for impatient or aggressive driving,” said Sheriff Dan Coverley. “The safety of construction workers and drivers depends on motorists slowing down, following the posted speed limit, traffic control measures, and remaining alert while traveling through these areas.”

Construction zones are established to protect both workers and the traveling public during roadway improvements. Drivers are reminded that the posted speed limit through the project work zones is 35 mph and must be obeyed at all times. Motorists should expect reduced speeds, changing traffic patterns, and periodic delays while traveling through the project area.

Drivers are also reminded that Nevada law imposes double penalties for speeding violations in marked road construction or maintenance zones when workers are present.

Sheriff Coverley added, “We want to remind driver to exercise patience and caution while crews work to improve the roadway. Our deputies are committed to promoting traffic safety throughout Douglas County.”
