EAT This Week: Overland Meat and Seafood Company’s Crab Cakes

To try and decide each week where and what to eat around the basin can be a challenge – there are so many amazing choices. In this feature we’ll dive into dishes that will surely satisfy those hunger pangs and leave you wondering where to go next.

The beauty about this week’s feature is you can walk right up to the counter, order as many as you’d like, and take them home to enjoy however you’d like. This isn’t the only ready to cook item available at Overland, but if you’re a fan of crab cakes, it should be high on the list to bring home.

I’m not going to tell you how to cook them because you have plenty of options and everyone dances to their own beat, but I will tell you that my method involved an air fryer. I just like the outer crust you can get without sacrificing the creaminess of the inside. Plus, since they are ready to go, you can just place and cook, and they’ll be done in a matter of minutes. The quicker the cook, the quicker to my belly.

I’m told that if you wanted to deconstruct and combine multiple cakes into one super cake and enjoy as like a huge crab cake sandwich, it’s amazing … and I believe it. I blew through two in like a breath and a half. I may not even have swallowed.

One of the best parts about eating these at home is you can experiment with sauces to serve with – although I housed the first one with just a squeeze of lemon so rest assured, you can devour on their own if you choose. Traditionally, a remoulade or a tartar sauce are usually the go-to’s with cocktail sauce not far behind. For me, I had a Polynesian sauce burning a hole in my pocket so that’s what I went with and I was not disappointed. Each bite was full of meat and not lacking anywhere in the flavor department.

Typically, on Mondays they will run a special giving you two for $5. I’d take full advantage going forward – I just need to remember to order enough.
