Monday morning: Seniors make up disproportionate amount of early voters

As of Monday at around 9 a.m., roughly 35% of El Dorado County voters have returned their mail-in ballots, according to Political Data Inc., California’s largest voter data tracking system. That’s 47,919 out of 137,887 ballots mailed.

Data shows 43% of ballots returned came from registered Republicans, 36% came from Democrats and 21% from other parties and non-affiliated voters.

Seniors have the highest turnout so far. About 58% of voters who have returned their ballots were 65 or older, even though seniors make up just 35% of registered voters in the county, the data says.

Both Democrats and Republicans are returning ballots at a higher rate than voters from other parties or unaffiliated voters.
