SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – For its fifth year in a row, South Lake Tahoe’s Multicultural Celebration kicks off on September 12 at Bijou Community Park offering a celebration of different cultures through art, entertainment, food, displays, activities, and more.
“This is a festival-style event that’s free for the community to attend,” said Emily Abernathy, Marketing and Events Coordinator for the City of South Lake Tahoe.
An exciting lineup of entertainment is scheduled for this year as artists take to the main stage to dazzle the crowd with unique performances ranging from high-energy Battle Born Highland Scottish dance to vibrant Mexican folkloric dance.
In addition to the performances, there will be a variety of market place vendors, food and beverage vendors, community partners and local nonprofits such as the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe, Vista Rise Collective, and the U.S. Forest Service who will be participating in fun activities and games with attendees, including free facepainting, global flag design, a community scrapbook, opportunities to meet Smokey Bear, and more.
Artists and artisans will be displaying hand-made jewelry, macrame, candlemaking and home-baked goods.
Cold Water Brewery will be offering ice-cold adult beverages while food options include dumplings, kabobs, mexican food, along with ice cream and kettle corn desserts.
“My favorite part of this event are the performances we see every year. It’s amazing to see the different cultural groups that come up. We have a lot of local groups that have participated and groups from as far as Napa coming up to perform,” Abernathy said.
Performing artists include Tahoe Mountain Aikido, SpiceIslander Steel Drum Band, Diablos Mixtecos Oaxaca, and Samba Da Capital.
The event is free for the public and runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bijou Community Park.
The Lake Tahoe Bike Coalition is sponsoring a free bike valet and guests are encouraged to carpool as parking is limited.
