The first snow of autumn provided a light dusting on Jobs Peak on Monday morning as a light rain fell in parts of Carson Valley.

National Weather Service records indicated around .02 inches of rain fell in Sheridan and Fredericksburg, which sit at the base of the Sierra landmark.

The closest snow telemetry site to Jobs Peak, located at Hagan’s Meadow, indicated an inch of snow fell at 7,741 feet overnight.

Heavenly Valley’s snow telemetry indicated that a tenth of an inch of rain fell at 8,533 feet.

Wednesday is the last day of the water year.

While there isn’t a National Weather Service gauge located in the middle of the Valley, an Aug. 13 lightning storm dumped 1.55 inches over 75 minutes in Gardnerville.

A gauge in the Pine Nut Mountains above Ruhenstroth recorded 11.43 inches since Oct. 1, 2025. That doesn’t include the rain that fell on Sept. 25, 2025, and flooded the community.

According to the Desert Research Institute gauge located just south of Genoa Lane, 7.59 inches of precipitation fell since Oct. 1, 2025.

A gauge at Fish Springs recorded 7.82 inches during the water year, while a gauge at the top of Johnson Lane recorded 8.73 inches.

“By Wednesday into next weekend, a ridge will strengthen across the western U.S.,” said National Weather Service Reno Meteorologist Colin McKellar. “This will allow for temperatures to once again increase back into the mid to upper 80s in Western Nevada. Winds are light and conditions are dry during this timeframe.”
