A Douglas County School Board trustee is being held in lieu of $1,022,525 bail after she waived extradition and was transported to California on Friday afternoon.
Erinn Colleen Miller, 46, appeared in Tahoe Township Justice Court at 1 p.m. Friday where she signed the waiver.
According to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office jail log, she was taken into custody 4:50 p.m. Friday at the Douglas County Jail, where she had been held without bail since her arrest at Lake Tahoe on Thursday.
She is facing multiple felony counts of embezzlement, forgery, and money laundering from her work providing bookkeeping and financial management services to a South Lake Tahoe medical group and a local youth sports organization, according to the Tahoe Daily Tribune.
Miller was scheduled to appear Tuesday in Tahoe Township with attorney Patrick Ferguson on Douglas County charges of theft and embezzlement, however, that probably won’t occur.
She is accused of taking $125,000 from the Zephyr Cove Elementary School Kids Club and the Whittell Boosters Club, both of which support the students at the two local schools.
Miller was elected to the Douglas County School Board in 2024. She sought a leave of absence as a trustee at the board’s Oct. 15 meeting. No action was taken.
A public official “who refuses or neglects to perform any official act in the manner and form prescribed by law” may be removed from office under Nevada Law.
In Miller’s case, the official act would be her inability to attend school board meetings while she is in custody.
The means listed in NRS 283.440 is for a complaint under oath to be presented to the district court. A hearing is set within 20 days where evidence is presented, and if found to be justified, a judge can remove the person from office. The ruling can be appealed, but the public officer can’t retain the office in the meantime.
