SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – 14-year-old Piper Murnane has her sights set on Poland as one of 20 scouts selected to represent the United States at the 2027 World Jamboree.

Troop 979 is part of Scouting America, one of the largest youth organizations in the country, and World Jamboree is where approximately 45,000 Scouts and leaders from over 140 countries around the world come together to camp, participate in merit badges and activities, and create connections and friendships.

Murnane joined the troop when it first formed last year and has been working hard to create lifelong skills, building confidence and embracing outdoor adventures such as skating, canoeing, hiking and more.

“I like to camp, so I really enjoy Scouting because we get to go camping and do all kinds of different activities,” said Murnane.

In order to afford getting to the World Jamboree, Murnane is selling popcorn with goals of reaching $20,000. Current funds raised are just shy of the halfway mark at $9,755 as of October 5.

She’s striving to break the record for most popcorn sold and also aims to earn new badges including Aviation and Mechanics.

“I’m definitely excited about getting to learn about Poland, getting to explore, and learning about all the different cultures, that’s always really fun,” she said.
