SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Come celebrate Smokey Bear’s 82nd birthday with the U.S. Forest Service and our Great Basin Institute partners. The fire prevention icon’s birthday bash is on Sunday, August 9 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Tallac Historic Site’s Baldwin Museum on the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit.
The birthday extravaganza includes: Photo opportunities, sign the birthday card, group book readings, meet firefighters, and cake! For more than 80 years, Smokey Bear has taught generations of forest visitors about the importance of wildfire prevention. His powerful message, “Only you can prevent wildfires,” is at the heart of the longest-running public service announcement (PSA) campaign in U.S. history.
