SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – After their third consecutive win to take home the Nevada State Championship, the South Tahoe 13-16 All-Star team is headed to the Pacific Southwest Regional tournament.
Four years of playing as a team have proved advantageous as the All-Stars’ defeated Fallon, 16-1 and Sparks, 18-3. After coming back from a 7-1 deficit to win their third game, the team secured their title.
“We feel like we’re still improving and our play is getting better every time we go out there to play and practice,” said Chris Campion, Assistant Coach for the South Tahoe Babe Ruth 13-16 All-Star team.
The Pacific Southwest Regional tournament in Fallon, Nevada will feature multi-day, double-elimination brackets while the team competes against the best teams from Arizona, Northern, Central and Southern California, Utah and Hawaii starting on July 19.
Because the South Tahoe All-Stars’ have competed in the tournament in years prior, they have an idea what to expect, and sights are set on landing spots in the winners bracket throughout the week.
“The goal for this year is to win more games and get deeper into the tournament,” Campion said. “Ultimately, we want to play on Friday for the championship.”
In addition to several fundraising efforts that have taken place including a golf fundraiser at the Lake Tahoe Golf Course, a GoFundMe has been created to cover travel expenses so every player can afford the opportunity to compete.
As of July 16, the GoFundMe has reached $2570 of its $3500 goal. If you’d like to donate to help the South Tahoe Babe Ruth 13-16 All-Star team travel to regionals, visit https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-south-tahoe-all-stars-regional-journey?modal=donations&tab=all.
“We’re very honored and humbled to represent South Tahoe,” said Campion “We emphasize that with the players at almost every practice – that they’re representing not only themselves, their families and their schools, but also our whole community.”
