SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The U.S. Forest Service has resumed restoration activity in Rabe Meadow on the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit. The Lam Watah Trail Boardwalk Project includes re-routing a section of trail that frequently floods during wet conditions to protect the sensitive meadow ecosystem while improving the trail experience for visitors. A temporary detour is scheduled to be in place beginning Oct. 19.

For public safety, visitors should avoid construction areas and use the alternate routes indicated on the map provided.

Project activity includes re-routing the existing trail, constructing elevated boardwalks, decommissioning the existing trail and restoring area vegetation.

Visitors can expect to see crews working, staged equipment, building materials and construction activity. While this work is underway, sections of the trail will be temporarily closed and alternate routes provided for meadow visitors.

Project work is expected to continue for several weeks. Temporary disruptions to meadow access may occur, but every effort will be made to alleviate impacts to recreational access.

The Decision Memo and other project documents are available for viewing on the Burke Creek Restoration Project webpage.
