LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – Outdoor Angels is an online platform facilitating regular connection to the outdoors, while simultaneously offering donation opportunities to organizations stewarding the places explored. The platform just launched in the Tahoe region.

It aims to bridge the gap between outdoor recreation, local businesses, and environmental preservation, incorporating four components on its website:

  • Matchmaker: An AI assistant that helps users discover destinations, plan activities, and
design tailored outdoor itineraries based on preferences.
  • Natureward: A progress system that tracks time spent on trails, water, and snow, designed to encourage users to build consistent habits outdoors.
  • Navigator & Provider Network: A directory connecting users to trusted local
    guides, outfitters, and outdoor businesses.
  • Stewards Program: Lets users contribute to local conservation nonprofits directly through the planning experience.

The vision for Outdoor Angels started when founder Guy Mikel identified a societal shift away from the outdoors.

“Growing up, spending time outside didn’t require deliberate effort; it was simply part of daily
life,” Mikel said. “Modern life requires us to consciously schedule time in nature. Most people express a desire to spend more time outdoors, but figuring out where to start can get in the way. Outdoor Angels is designed to remove that friction, support local outdoor operators, and channel resources back to the organizations caring for our shared lands.”

With its Tahoe launch, Outdoor Angels is running a contribution match for local nonprofits, including the Pacific Crest Trail Association, Sugar Pine Foundation, and Clean Up the Lake.

“We’re grateful to be part of Outdoor Angels’ launch in the Tahoe region and to be included alongside organizations doing important stewardship work across our region,” said Colin West, CEO of Clean Up the Lake. “We love the idea of connecting time spent outdoors with meaningful action to protect the places that make those experiences possible. Lake Tahoe belongs to all of us, and protecting it takes a community.”

Outdoor Angels is matching up to $50 per user from a $25,000 pool.

“In order to keep Tahoe blue, we need to keep our forests green,” a spokesperson from the Sugar Pine Foundation said. “By encouraging people to spend time in the forest, this platform will foster more nature lovers and forest conservationists.”
