STATELINE, Nev. – The Nevada Department of Transportation is nearing completion of a two-year project to revitalize the U.S.-50 corridor from Stateline, Nev., to Spooner Summit.
Paving operations are complete, but crews are now tasked with finalizing the project, including completing signs, striping, painting barrier rails and cleaning up staging areas.
As this final work unfolds, NDOT will continue to implement traffic control. NDOT expects minimal delays for the remainder of the project.
As a reminder, speed is reduced to 35 mph in work zones.
NDOT hopes the completed project will bring smoother, safer roads to the busy stretch, which sees about 26,000 drivers daily, according to the department’s data.
The project has added two double yellow lines in the median, creating two feet of separation between oncoming traffic to reduce head-on crashes. To support this effort, crews also added centerline rumble strips between Spooner Pass and Glenbrook, as well as in other selected areas.
Crews have also replaced or upgraded certain sections of roadside guardrail to concrete barrier rail to enhance safety.
The project replaced asphalt curbs with concrete to withstand winter snow removal. Drainage is also improved to reduce standing water on the roadway.
